A driver is accused of hitting multiple cars and then running off with his dog before stealing a car and hitting more vehicles Friday morning in Annandale, Virginia.
The suspect is now in custody.
Crash victims said the man was driving at a high rate of speed when he struck seven vehicles that had stopped for a traffic light at Little River Turnpike and Annandale Road. His Jeep Liberty lost a tire in the process.
The man ran from the SUV, carrying his pit bull, and a witness reported hearing him say, "Not me, not today."
The suspect then ran two blocks to the Little River Shopping Center, where he approached a woman and demanded her car keys in the parking lot outside a Safeway, authorities said. The woman, an employee at a nearby bank, ran to her workplace and asked a security guard there for help.
The guard confronted him but the suspect demanded the keys by holding a knife to the guard's neck, police said. In the scuffle, the guard was cut on his hands.
The man got the keys of both the bank employee and the guard, took the guard's car and began driving erratically, hitting at least four more cars and the brick column in front of the Safeway before he crashed into a pole near the street, police said.

Two then officers attempted to get him into custody, but he resisted and the officers eventually used pepper spray and a stun gun, police said. The man was taken into custody and the dog was taken to animal control.
None of the other drivers suffered life-threatening injuries, but it wasn't immediately clear whether any were taken to hospitals.
