A man and a woman are charged with child abuse after the man ran over his son with construction equipment.
Kenneth Albrecht Toone, 39, and Erin Renee Knox, 29, were riding Bobcats at a worksite in the 5400 block of Fallen Oaks Lane in Gainesville about noon March 15, according to Prince William County police.
A 3-year-old boy and another child also were at the worksite, where Toone and Knox were the only adults present, police said.
Toone accidentally ran over the boy, police said.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he was found to have significant internal injuries, police said. He was flown to a trauma center and is expected to survive.
Following an investigation, Toon and Knox were arrested April 17 because of the unsafe environment where the boy was seriously injured, police said.
