Score Free Coffee at Tenleytown Wawa When It Opens Thursday

Rejoice, Washington Wawa lovers: The widely popular Philadelphia-based convenience store/sandwich shop chain has opened its Tenleytown location.

Doors opened to throngs of Wawa fans and hungry morining commuters about 8 a.m. at the 4530 40th St. NW location next to the Red Line Metro station. The day was marked with free coffee, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and free Wawa T-shirts for the first 200 people who visited the location.

The store is opening in the space previously occupied by a Sears appliance showroom.

The opening ceremony will include remarks from local partners, a "hoagies-for-heroes" hoagie building competition and a digital letter writing station where customers can send messages of appreciation to military service members, a spokesperson confirmed.

Another Wawa store is expected to open at 2424 18th St. NW in Adams Morgan in the fall.

Wawa recently opened its third D.C. location in Columbia Heights last month in addition to a Georgetown shop in 2018 and a Dupont Circle shop in 2017.
