Va. Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Break Starts Monday

Set aside some time this week to stock up on batteries, bottled water and other supplies; Virginia's annual hurricane preparedness sales tax holiday starts Monday.

The sales tax holiday spares residents state and local levies for items that also include flashlights, first-aid kits, and bigger-ticket items such as generators priced at $1,000 or less. The tax holiday runs through May 31.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins June 1 and ends Nov. 30. In the eastern Pacific, it begins May 15 and ends Nov. 30.
