Fire Engulfs Police Officer's Home, Cruiser in Damascus

Ammunition inside a police cruiser in Damascus, Maryland, exploded Friday morning after flames from a burning home spread to the cruiser.

Montgomery County firefighters were called to the home on Haney Avenue just before 3 a.m. for a report of a fire. When they arrived, they found the home and a police cruiser that was parked next to it on fire. 

Fire officials say ammunition inside the vehicle exploded as a result of the fire. 

No one was injured by the ammunition. 

Two residents were transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
