Kirk Cousins to Start for 2015 Season

Kirk Cousins will start at quarterback for the Washington Redskins for the entire 2015 season.

Head Coach Jay Gruden made the announcement Monday afternoon, CSN reported

Backup quarterback Colt McCoy will play the entire game this Thursday night against Jacksonville.

The move comes after the team played without quarterback Robert Griffin III for Saturday's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. Griffin was pulled from the game late Friday after an independent neurologist said Griffin hadn't sufficiently recovered from concussion-like symptoms.

Griffin sustained an apparent concussion in the Redskins' second preseason game.

But Gruden says Griffin did not lose his starting position because of his injury, adding that he lost it due to Cousins' performance.

"Robert's on our football team...We believe in Robert. It's a good problem to have to have three quarterbacks competing," Gruden said.

Cousins filled in capably for Griffin on Saturday night, throwing for 190 yards and a touchdown. He went 20 for 27 with one interception to help the Redskins take a 14-13 halftime lead.

The Washington Redskins went on to beat the Ravens 31 to 13.
