20+ Businesses Damaged by Fire, Smoke in Belle View Area of Fairfax County

More than 20 businesses were damaged overnight Sunday into Monday by a six-alarm fire at a shopping center in Fairfax County, Virginia.

The fire broke out about midnight in the Belle View Shopping Center in the 1500 block of Belle View Boulevard, located south of Old Town Alexandria and the Capital Beltway.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the rear of the building and had to call in reinforcements, including the Prince George's County fire department. The fire eventually went to six alarms.

The affected businesses were mostly damaged due to heavy smoke, but the fire also caused a roof collapse at a Roy Rogers in the shopping center. Firefighters went from store to store, trying to ventilate the heavy smoke that traveled through the shopping center. They had to cut open the roof in parts to vent the smoke.

One firefighter was treated for a minor injury.

Power was cut to the affected businesses and the nearby area.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
